We went camping this weekend at Cedar Hill State Park, with help from Mindy and Chuck (thanks y'all!!!). The Rangers were playing in Arlington the night we arrived, so traffic was awful. When we finally arrived at the park it was really dark. We hiked up to one "primative" area, only to find that it was just a big clearing in the trees that they mowed. There were already five or six tents set up, so we turned around and headed back to the truck. We loaded up and headed to the other primative area. It was hard to figure out where to go in the dark, but we eventually found the primative area. We were the only campers there and set up camp in an isolated corner. We set up the tent, ate and went to sleep.
It was chilly on Saturday morning. We drove around the park, checking it out and ended up hiking on the DORBA trail, without a map (bad decision). There is a 3 mile, 6 mile and 12 mile loop. We mised the turn to do the 3 mile loop.
Lake/caterpillar stop before heading back. This picture is about 2.5 miles in. Bailey walked it all up until this point.
When we were out about 2.5 miles, we decided we better find a way back. We had GPS with us so we knew which direction to go. The terrain prohibited us from making a straight line back to the truck. When we were about 1/4 mile from the truck we figured we were about back. No way. The trail went back and forth and up and down. For about 30 minutes of our hike, the GPS told us we were +/- 1/4 mile from the truck.
This was one a pretty area to stop when we had 1/4 to 1/2 mile left. The wind is blowing leaves off the trees. Bailey is trying to catch them.
We finally got back to the truck and headed back to our campsite. Later that day Bailey got to play on some playground equipment with a couple other kids. The next morning I took several pictures of Bailey in his little tent and some pictures of the campsite. A little boy names Bailey must have gotten a hold of my camera and deleted them. Oh well. We'll just have to go camping again soon.
