Day 1 & 2: On Our Way to Michigan

We left our home at 6:00 A.M. on June 19th, which happens to be our 11th anniversary, to start our journey to Traverse City, Michigan for the 2010 Rampi Family Reunion.

Mickey got to go along on the trip. Corn always misses out on the good trips!

Here is Lake Eufala in Oklahoma.
We headed to Shelbyville, MO for a pit stop at Grandma and Grandpa Wilt's house. We were glad they took us in for one night.

Here's Bailey in the morning, playing with the dogs before we hit the road again.

Bailey will tell you what this is on the next video.

The drive through Illinois was terrible. As we entered the state from Missouri we passed several signs that generally said "do this, pay $$$ and go to jail", "do this, pay a fine". Sign after sign after sign. Several farmers had signs up about needing the right to bear arms to protect their families, which was a welcomed sight. I don't think I could live in Illinois. Not to mention, the landscape isn't to exciting. The only thing that kept us occupied was calculating the ratio of vanity Illinois plates to regular plates. It was about 1:8. We've never seen so many vanity plates before!

In the picture above and below, Bailey really doesn't want his picture taken.

I just thought this was interesting. I'm guessing that it is a giant rock quarry. It was on both sides of the road and the road went over it. It makes me think that the quarry was there before the road.
Bailey is making Mickey be a Burger King.

We finally made it to Michigan, but got stuck in traffic for a while because a little truck pulling a mobile home, lost its load. Below is the trooper who was on the scene to help out. We thought the light on top was a joke when we first saw it. The light looks one you might find in a novelty shop. We later found out that all of the state trooper cars look like this!

The part of our drive north of Grand Rapids was the prettiest of our whole drive.

Spider Lake Retreat at last! Here is our room, already messy with our bags.

Here's the bathroom.
Here is the view of Spider Lake from our window.
